| Cocaine sensitization is a marker for some facets of addiction, is greater in female rats, and may be influenced by their sex hormones. We compared the modulatory effects of endogenous or exogenous estradiol and progesterone on cocaine-induced behavioral sensitization in 106 female rats. Ovariectomized female rats received progesterone (0.5 mg/mL), estradiol (0.05 mg/mL), progesterone plus estradiol, or the oil vehicle. Sham-operated control females received oil. Control and acute subgroups received injections of saline, while the repeated group received cocaine (15 mg/kg, ip) for 8 days. | Eosinophils are abundant in the reproductive tract, contributing to the remodeling and successful implantation of the embryo. However, the mechanisms by which eosinophils migrate into the uterus and their relationship to edema are still not entirely clear, since there are a variety of chemotactic factors that can cause migration of these cells. Therefore, to evaluate the role of CCR3 in eosinophil migration, ovariectomized C57BL/6 mice were treated with CCR3 antagonist SB 328437 and 17β-estradiol. | Neste estudo, foram utilizadas 7 cadelas sem raça definida, adultas e hígidas, copuladas com macho hígido, após exame andrológico, para acompanhamento das variações hormonais de progesterona, 17b-estradiol e cortisol a partir do final do próestro, durante o estro e diestro gestacional em fêmeas da espécie canina. | O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o desempenho reprodutivo de porcas multíparas submetidas à infusão uterina de diferentes soluções, realizada no início do estro. Um total de 1.019 fêmeas foram controladas no período de verão (n=570) e inverno (n=449). Os animais foram submetidos a cinco tratamentos, que consistiram em infusão de plasma seminal (PS), sêmen morto (SM), solução de 17beta-estradiol (SE), solução fisiológica (SS) e um grupo-controle (CO). As fêmeas receberam três inseminações: a primeira, 8-12 horas após a detecção do estro, e as demais, nos turnos subseqüentes. Apart from hectic fevers, dyspareunia and so on, dry mouth also increase significantly after menopause. | Foram avaliados os efeitos de dietas aniônicas (DA) e catiônicas (DC), associadas ou não ao uso de estradiol em dois períodos secos: período seco curto (30 dias) (PSC) e período seco regular (60 dias) (PSR) sobre o consumo de matéria seca (MS) de 40 vacas Holandesas, nos períodos pré-parto (PREP) e pós-parto (PP), distribuídas aleatoriamente em esquema fatorial 2x2+2. As dietas foram fornecidas por 21 dias no período pré-parto, após o qual, as vacas passaram a receber uma dieta de lactação. | ABSTRACT In this study, four crab-eating fox females (Cerdocyon thous) maintained at the Federal University of Mato Grosso Zoo, Cuiabá, Brazil, were investigated for 12 months, using feces measurement of estradiol and progesterone concentrations. Fecal collections were performed three times a week for hormone extraction. Two methods of analysis, Elisa (EIA) and Radioimmunoassay (RIA), were used in the measurement of progesterone (P4) and estradiol (E2) metabolites. The aim of this study was to compare and validate two different methods of hormone measurement for C. thous. There were no differences regarding the method used. The Radioimmunoassay technique proved to be more sensitive, however, both showed similar results. |

| Estradiol has well-known indirect effects on the thyroid. A direct effect of estradiol on thyroid follicular cells, increasing cell growth and reducing the expression of the sodium-iodide symporter gene, has been recently reported. The aim of the present investigation was to study the effect of estradiol on iodide uptake by thyroid follicular cells, using FRTL-5 cells as a model.
